Luz Saúde delivered to Banco Alimentar a total of 2,630 kilos in foods , donated and collected by the collaborators of its units along Christmas. This initiative was developed in the scope of program “20 years, 20 causes” , integrated in the celebration of Luz Saúde anniversary. For each of the 20 years of existence of Luz Saúde, at least one institution developing intervention activity in the community is supported – in sectors such as environmental health, social inclusion and fight against poverty –, with the intention of undertaking jointly initiatives towards solidarity and involvement in the community. In the scope of this support to Banco Alimentar, collection containers were placed in the several hospitals and clinics of Luz Saúde , in continental Portugal and Madeira Island. And it was asked to all collaborators to donate non-perishable foods, such as milk, fruit juices, baby food porridges, biscuits, canned goods, rice, pastas, oil and olive oil. The collected goods were delivered, already in December, to the regional divisions of the Food Bank. The units of Luz Saúde in the North region delivered 959 kilos in foods, the units of Aveiro donated 285 kilos, and the units of Coimbra , 175 kilos. In the Lisbon area, Banco Alimentar received 750 kilos in foods deriving from the Luz Saúde units, in Setúbal over 173 kilos were collected, in Évora 150 kilos, and in Madeira Island, another 140 kilos. In 2019 (the most recent data available), the 21 Food Banks in activity in Portugal distributed 23,382 tons in foods, that reached 2,400 institutions and around 380 thousand people. This was the contribution of Luz Saúde towards the goal of keep “feeding this idea” , that for almost 30 years now is making the difference in the life of the country.
