The application of the consortium led by Hospital da Luz Learning Health, with a global investment of around 3 million euros, was elected by the operational program of community funding, Portugal 2020 , for the financing of research projects with international partners. The project in question – Intelligent Care, in the context of program Carnegie Mellon University – Portugal ( CMU Portugal ) – will be developed in the next three years and views to find artificial intelligence (AI) solutions, that will allow to establish better methodologies of treatment for patients with multiple concomitant pathologies (multimorbidity). The applicant projects to Portugal 2020 were evaluated by a panel of world renowned international experts, which approved only 10 applications. The research of the consortium led by Hospital da Luz Learning Health was the only one approved in the Operational Program of Lisbon. “It was an excellent surprise to see the number of applications, but above all the high quality and number of approved projects. We have some of the best national companies involved in the program over the next three years, which makes us extremely excited about the results we can achieve through these partnerships”, highlighted Nuno Nunes and Rodrigo Rodrigues, national co-directors of the CMU-Portugal Program. The Intelligent Care is based on international partnerships in the context of program Go Portugal – Global Science and Technology Partnerships Portugal and contributes to the national agenda of Atlantic Interactions . Besides researchers from Hospital da Luz Learning Health, the team of the Intelligent Care project integrates researchers of the Robotic Systems Institute from Instituto Superior Técnico, of INESC-ID , of Carnegie Mellon University , of Priberam and of Hospital da Luz Lisboa , which, besides the involvement in the respective clinical teams, will also be the demonstrator of the technology in development. The Intelligent Care also counts with the support of the directing boards of Information Technologies and Systems (DSTI) and of Business Planning and Intelligence (DPIN), from Luz Saúde. The selection of this project in the scope of Portugal 2020 arises in the sequence of Luz Saúde group investment in the promotion of scientific research that may contribute significantly for the advancement of knowledge, with a particular focus on the achievement of better results for patients.
